Snow and such

I am happy that the snow is finally melted over here, it actually wasn't that much snow but Xen enjoyed it very much! I have been very productive actually over here on my huge order of gnomes for Grumpy Bert Shop. I have a huge box sitting behind me which i totally planned taking pictures of my last gnome order ever!! But..my camera battery was dead. You will now only be able to buy most of gnomes over at Grumpybert Shop and then when he sells out that is it!

well i might have a little special gnome for a upcoming art show but not sure about that yet..

ooshirts review

This morning i was happy to receive my ooshirt in the mail!

I ordered both one in my size and one for Jayson with the same design.

What is ooshirts?

It is a new online custom tshirt printing company that is very simple.

They try to keep the cost of printing shirts to a minimum by having a no ads, no frills approach.

They instead rely on word of mouth so they can focus on running the business.

Which is why i was happy to do a review for them on my shirts!

I started out uploading my image to the ooshirts website and had no problems figuring it out. It is very straight forward and there is a customer service available if you do need help.

Jay did a cute little gnome design a while back and we decided it was worth trying out.

The quality of both shirts are great! I find it actually better than i expected, because usually custom print tees are thin and cheap quality but both were nice and thick.

The image is very bright and kind of had a glossy texture on top of the shirt.

I can tell they use a digital printer, not silkscreen to cut down the cost which is smart.

However i think the only thing is i wish it had info on the printing process explained on the website,

most people probably don't really notice that stuff anyway..but i have to criticise something..right?

I must say that ooshirts really does have a good deal for what you pay for.

My cutesypoo tshirts were printed with only one colour because i was limited by the cost of

each colour but on ooshirts, it is so cheap you don't have to worry about how many colours you have.

This tshirt would only be $24 with free shipping and that is with a full colour option!

Overall i think it's cute !

Warm and Cozy Christmas

I am happy to say that the tree is up and the living room is fully furnished!

We ordered the fireplace online because it was difficult to find one to match the house style,

I finally have a big christmas tree instead of the 3 feet tall kind we had in the townhome!

Xen was a good girl at "helping" putting the ornaments on ..and off!

Most ornaments were old and ones i made ( see prev post )

One ornament that i had to actually buy from a store was the pinkie pie, pretty on model!

I am starting work on a new storyboard tommorow on My Little Pony, so i will be busy and not blogging much this month. As far as my toys are going i only have a little left in my etsy and my cartel store is still well stocked.

The other ornaments i bought were from a Cheri Wheeler on etsy who makes

these cross stitch ornaments, they are all super pretty and very high quality, i can't love these more!!

To complete the comfy home i tried a new bread recipe for Challah Bread. It was a tad under done so i now know to keep it in a bit longer, it is hard when i have to now worry about the fire alarm is so close to the kitchen, i am paranoid of burning anything..

Finally the cozy comfy christmas living room is complete!

Now all i have to do is have a big mug of hot chocolate and curl up by the fire.

Christmas Stairs

When we had our house warming this past summer, a friend of ours said "you have christmas stairs".

I asked what he meant by that and he said the stairs are perfectly placed so when you get up on christmas morning and run downstairs you have the perfect movie like setting infront of you! Well ever since then i had to deliver!

My old tree was like 3 feet high with tiny ornaments,
so i had to make some christmas decorations for our brand new large tree!

I know it is nothing out of the box , by any means, however i really wanted that canadian cabin look..I mean i do live in canada.. with a twist of the scandinavian christmas that i love the reds and whites of. This is mainly due to a obsession of scandinavian style cross stitch i had recently..

Anyways i hope to post the final looks of the living room, it really is coming together !
I just have been a busy post office bee as the orders are coming in for christmas!

Everypony Song!

This is the latest episode that aired this morning and i storyboarded a short song sequence in it!

It is more of a modern style song than the epic musical style songs and i really liked doing it.

A definate reference was the fashion videos you see with the latest line of fashions, i used that look of the split screen to make it look like a fashion magazine. I LOVE style versus hating fashion and i think rarity definately has style!!

This is the only song i boarded for season two but i did some other stuff coming up :D

I am writing on this dreary rainy afternoon to report that my birthday weekend of fun is offically cancelled because i am sick. So hopefully i just have to prospone the fun till next weekend..

However i did drag myself out of bed because i want to show a bit of what i have been working on!

It's a small part of my big christmas decorating plan! Since we got the new house , we are having the family over for christmas dinner and i am excited to get the place ready!

So far we got christmas lights half done, i just got garlands and a cute table runner yesterday, and i am currently sewing up the decorations for the new huge christmas tree. I am going to a scandinavian / canadian log cabin feel. Plus the new fireplace is coming this monday ! yeah!

Halloween Fun!

I never carved a white pumpkin before and i really think it glows way brighter than the one below is the usual orange colour. Jay carved that one! hehee

This was Xen's first ever trick or treating and she really loved it. A little scared at some of the houses but she was even getting good at knocking on the doors and saying trick or treat too. Her expression here really suited the costume...

Ooh and I have some exciting news! My gnomes are now in two shops!

The Grumpy Bert Pop up shop just opened!!
He has pretty well bought up the last of my large size gnomes and a bunch of the eggtarts too!
The shop is really cool as well because it is made from an old shipping container! Looks like all of the shops there are made from them as well. So it makes for an interesting shopping trip!

Second is a familiar shop i have sent her the remainder of my bunny and bear toys!
It is the cute little toy shop called Spielwerk Toys in Portland! So check them out if you can!

This only leaves me a small box worth of the large ones and i still have some small ones in stock but it is getting smaller every week!

Of course i am already excited about the upcoming holidays !! i am excited to decorate the house and the new big tree!!

House Continued- The Dining Room

I wanted to make the dining room/living room warm and comfy, and in fall it really comes through the best, with the pumpkins in season and comfy throws and pillows all around! This Table is my absolute favorite thing ever..because it is exactly what i wanted AND it was on sale at Sears for a deal!

This is the window on the wall on the other side ( not shown) we got this from an antique store on Main Street in Vancouver where there are tons of great stained glass that has been salvaged from old houses around town. Most window are in not the best shape but this one was in almost mint shape and i really liked the candles as it went perfect in dining room for cozy dinners. It was our few "splurges" plus we had the glass set inside a new window that you can open from the bottom!

We also got a new Sofa from Sears and i really love the soft texture,

plus i just have to show off this cute pillow i bought off Etsy from Nanacompany.

Her Blog is super cute too!

Xen likes the new sofa too...to jump off of...sigh..

Gnome Colour Wheel / Xen's Room

BRONY CON and VCON!!!

We will be at BRONY CON in NY on SEPT 24th!
We just booked the hotel last night and i am super excited to get a vacation in this year!
Oh Yeah so this is all because my husband Jayson got invited to talk at the Brony Con and they were so nice to fly him out here..i am just tagging along for fun! However we get a table there and i am going to bring some of our Eggtart and Musseloom toys along as well to sell there.

Also the next weekend i am going to have a table at VCON which is in the Sheraton Vancouver Airport on Sept.30th, Oct 1 and 2nd. I got a half table by invitation from someone running it and she thought my gnomes would do well there in the "artists alley section".

Also..just in case you are confused by visiting the cutesypootoys website and it is not there , it is because i decided to cut my costs of running a domain website and just stick with my blog/twitter cuz that's where everyone seems to be going anyway. Still not sure if i am going to renew at Flickr Pro Account either, probably not just going to go back to the free account as well.

This does not mean that i am quitting at all ..like i said this is just a part of changing my path..and yes it is also an expense i no longer think is needed ;D

Okay back to crafting!!

Gnomes no more!

Well i am sad to announce i am officially stopping all gnome production. This means my current stock will sell on etsy until basically all are sold out. When it comes down to it . they are so so fun but i think i want to move on to doing other things instead!

What am i thinking of moving on to?? Well i want to do more creative ventures instead of just the labour side. Things like making patterns of toys i already have like eggtart, coconut bun.you name it!
This is more because i think with this economy, people most likely are not into paying tons for stuffed toys but are more than willing to pay a couple of dollars to make one themselves. I now also have a kid and boy does that teach you more than anything what makes a good toy is one they can play with , and not just sit and look pretty!! So yeah i am thinking play food stuffies pattern and things like that..

I will also be more into doing art shows and one off things of that nature! I already have one that i am
getting involved in.

We are starting a clearance sale starting today!! Gnomes are now $10 and Cutesypoo Tees are only $6!!
So basically if you ever wanted one of my stuffies from my etsy shop, i would get one before they all disappear!!

Unpacking is harder than packing..

I have been purging stuff the last 6 months and now that we are moved, it seems like nothing we packed actually works in the new home either! So..we are purging again! I just sold our kitchen table and chairs and a chinese screen as well as loads of stuff i am putting together for a garage sale..on the other hand we just bought a couch and chair and new dining table that are lovely! I am not showing it off until the entire living room is done. This cute pic of xen making a mini picnic from a stool in our kitchen while i was cooking dinner turned out really nice with no effects added, i like the faded light from the kitchen window just turned out like that naturally!

This is our top floor where the stairs wind up and we originally had it closed off office but later on decided to open it up for a more brighter feeling. I had to get rid of so much to fit all my stuff here as it is much smaller than my old area. However it was all stuff i would have probably never used anyway.

This is the opposite side where we had them make a small shelf in the wall for displaying things.
The door leads into the an extra bedroom where the baby crib is.

This brown hutch on the right is my chinese grandmother's and i just inherited it last year when she passed away. It is in wonderful shape and I plan to sand it and paint it white. For now it holds my fabric perfectly!

Lastly a pic my friend Sabrina took when she was in the Sandiego comicon of my egg tarts and musseloom! I am ordering more to put in the store soon!

Cupcake stand story and a glimpse of the new home :D

I have been on a quest..for the last year or more to find the perfect cupcake stand for the perfect price.

There was a close to perfect one i almost bought on etsy a while back but the shipping was equal to the item and i backed out..would have probably been close to $50..

I decided that i would look around Vallue village whenever i dropped off donations ..which was pretty often when you are moving and selling your townhome. I was there every month but no luck! So this week i had just moved into the new home and went to the Bank to deposit my final check from the sale of the townhome ( which was the biggest check i will ever carry in my life!) And i decided to get off the bus on the way home to check out a furniture place, but it was closed so i went to the next bus stop and it was right there..in the window of the salvation army. I HAD to have it!

Oh and it was $15! And there was a bit of coffee stains here and there but after i got it home it cleaned up and the parts were it unscrews was really stuck and some WD40 did the trick there as well.

I plan to use it at my craft sales for displaying my egg tarts and what not, as well as for eating cupcakes at tea time of course!

This was another bargain at $20 that i cannot take credit for as my mom actually scored this for xen..I love the little prince!

I hope to show off more of the house as it goes along!
And my flickr is back on! wee!

Fooling around with my new ipad :D

I have to admit i am NEVER easily impressed by well..anything lately so my new purchase of the ipad 2 was not a biggie, my mom has one and i was on the edge of seeing if i really needed one too since Xen has been so into my mom's that when she gets home. Xen is up and running to her saying "game?" Game?" hehe

But lo i am really happy to say it has become my new favorite thing, since my old itouch i can now see i badly needed the upgrade!! I don't want to gush too much but here is a couple of pics i snapped with it and already i can easily check my etsy shop while cooking dinner and update my paper gnomes at the same time?? Nice..VERY nice..Of course even better that i bought i with $$ from my etsy shop entirely!

As far as life goes we have JUST sold the house yesterday and the final walk thru with the new home is next week. So i was up and packing today and can't believe it is only 2 weeks away to the BIG moving day!! I guess i can post up pics here as well but you can also check out my house blog on it here.

When i move in i think my creative self will wake up from a long long slumber but i have a long list of unpacking , setting up the house before i get there..however i am already getting invites to crafty things that i am starting to consider..which is great because i have had some great shows and oppurtunities that i had to turn down to focus on the house stuff and it has bummed me out sort of ..so hopefully good things will come in this fall ;D

well yesterday the last episode of My little pony aired! I am happy to post up the song " At the Gala" that i got the chance to Storyboard the entire thing as a special request from Lauren due to the success from the winter wrap up song i did earlier!

Looking at it now, it turned out really well. However it was totally worth having this song in my head for a month....hehehe.

These are the most adorable stuffed animals with super soft fur on the back for ultra cuddlyness!!

I have some leftovers from a wholesale order at Spielwerk Toys in Portland that i just sent out. They are a lovely shop if you are in the area you have to check them out!

I made them using Spoonflower again but with a cotton canvas and they turned out much better than my last batch with the linen.

You ever feel like that? like a strange calm amoung the chaos in life?
I think i am currently there with the chaos of building a house, packing up this house and renovating it at the same time..and currently i am working now on another ponysong as well, so my days are shot and i have to pack up boxes at nights this week.

But i know it is nice and calm now before we have to move boxes into storage this weekend and then i will be starting to repaint the place to sell it...obviously making toys is not exactly top priority these days but i am looking forward to my new sewing room i will have all to myself in the new house! eee!

however i don't really personally think it's my cup of tea since the director has done it very similar to the Shrek movie style..don't even get me STARTED on shrek..Oh well i mean it's great fun for kids and all , i just have very particular tastes in animation since i work in it and all.

The Purge begins and Internet Crisis here in Canada

So lots goin on here in Cutesypooland..

I am starting to purge the house out and start packing up and starting to reno the place to prepare for selling my townhome and moving into the house we are building! I also have a blog for that as well called home sweet home.to keep track mainly for my own sake! I went to VV and dropped off a trunkful of closet stuff and also sold my orange chair on craigslist today (finally!) And yet despite all that the house looks the same!! Sigh...LONG way to go!!!!

Also we are dealing with this huge internet sham in Canada that basically means the only internet provider is going to make the internet hugely expensive and put a cap on how much you can download and if you go over they are going to charge you by the gigabyte! Like we pay around $40 now and to get the same amount we download after it would be over $100 per month! This is all coming into effect next month and i am not sure what i will be doing with my etsy shop if it is too expensive for me i will have to put it on hiatus until we figure out what to do. Canada is the only country in the world to do this and it is all because the internet company is trying to kill netflix..so who cares that every small business is going to die..

Speaking of shops..... i also just got into this new site called CARGO it is like ETSY for canada, not everything is up yet just sort of slowly filling the shop but check it out here..

Got into another craft fair!!
I know sort of last minute, but it is a great opportunity to head down with the family for some treats at the market and a last minute gift buying at the craft fair!

Carousel Theatre’s Studios 1411 Cartwright Street (Granville Island), Vancouver, BC

Carousel Theatre for Young People is hosting an Artisan Market on December 18 & 19, 2010. The event is a fundraiser for our youth programming and a showcase for local designers, artisans and vendors. All funds raised by table rentals, entrance donations and café sales will directly benefit Carousel Theatre’s Season of Literary Classics and our Inner City School Ticket Donation Program. All sales raised by each vendor will go in their own pocket!

We will be hosting the event in our building, located on beautiful and bustling Granville Island. This is an excellent opportunity to share your work in a popular Vancouver shopping location- right before the holidays! We will be taking over the entire bottom floor of studios with vendor tables and a café with tasty treats, coffee, hot chocolate and hot apple cider.

Winter came a bit early this year, last week thursday it snowed and snowed! Of course i had to get xen out there to experience it and she loved it so much it was hard to get her to come back in the house. Good thing too because it rained right after and the snow was gone the next day.

We did the first of 2 craft fairs this year at Make It! For 3 whole days we were there and had a good time..i had never done any other than Got Craft? It was a very different vibe and I learned tons. There were some great other tables there and they actually served beer and wine which was a nice surprise to Jayson.

We sold lots of the ornaments ..the scent really does the trick.

Other great booths at Make it include- BYWA B ag Designs, Kukubee

and Papaya Blue ( Thanks for the Earrings! )

I don't know if i will be doing as much craft fairs next year, as i might go in a totally new direction..lots of ideas and new things to explore so i really liked that i was able to this year!

This weekend is the 2nd Craft show we are in at Got Craft? I will have some bunny , cat and bear toys that i didn't have at Make it! So if you are around vancouver on Sunday come down to 2205 Commercial Drive from 10- 5pm.

I finally am posting pics taken with my new Nikon 50 mm lens ! I love it soooo..

Below is a baby playmat quilt i made with the help of my friends, we split up the duties of cutting,sewing and quilting, i am very happy with the results! I really am starting to like quilting, perhaps Laurraine is inspiring me, i am actually going to incorporate more quilting in my future toys ( i already have designs planned) and want to get into making patterns to sell on etsy and also when i have enough do a book. I think after this craft show i am going to head in that direction...away from gnomes for awhile..

We have been slackin here at cutesypoo toys, due to lovely weather this last while..but now the weather is starting to get a chill in the air and i think i will be really very crazy busy this next while with building our new home! Yes i am sooooo excited!! We were at the bank and things are starting to gear up so we can start constructing a new nest for our family:D

Also here is my latest vintage find! A handmade loop rug for 3.99! It is in new condition and even has a tag on the back that says"handmade by amanda"

I don't know if i will have much time for crafting as i will be busy making a house..(now that's DIY!! ) haha but i plan to post as much about the house in this blog to keep it going..right?

Summer is upon us finally...but a summer with a sweater on is barely worth blogging about..

however it is a good strawberry season and my hanging pot of strawberries is one of xen's favorite treats! ( this is my front yard by the way now that xen can walk i will be spending more time here hopefully!)

As you can see - i am in construction currently on a new blog look :DDD

so things are not all done yet, still have to do a wallpaper to my liking ..

we are also working on exciting and new future toys !!

Jays dad ; Pete is a master tinkerer and made xen this cute wooden duck walker that also quacks! We like it so much we hope to get into making some for sale in the future as well.

Of course more gnomes are landing soon! Cheery Gnome and Sad Gnome peek out and also we are getting Large Love Gnomes as well as Large Angry Gnomes! You will have to wait UNLESS

This is a rather late post about a neat custom order we did a while back for a girl that wanted a set of office bathroom keys to have a cutesypoo plush attached to them! We used our new embroidery machine and it did a good job as i could have never done that by hand as they were

pretty small.

Then we liked them so much i made some extra that i was going to put up on my shop, but now we are sending them to propaganda as backpack plush buddies instead.

We celebrated little lemon's birthday on the weekend with a bbq!

This is the little wooden toy piano that we got her! It is the same type as schroeder plays in peanuts and she took to it right away!

In a funny coincidence our rhodo bloomed the same time as her birthday and i just had to take a pic of it as well.. the squirrels love napping under it and i got a good shot today of one taking a siesta..

Lastly we just rented a stuffing machine that people usually use for stuffing teddies at kids parties to try out for our gnomes and it worked great! Jays dad is going to try to build a homemade version for us - it usually takes us around an hour to stuff a large gnome and this thing did it in 10 minutes! Woohoo!

I am going gnome crazy these days! Check out this order i just shipped out this morning to propaganda which apparently can't keep them on the shelves!!

So i broke down and hired a sewing partner to help me sew gnomes for the next batches or i would be sewing until morning each day! Actually i am super happy to find her and it gives me more time in the future to expand on the backlog of new things i want to make!

Like..we are going to have cheery and sad gnomes coming very soon :D

Oh and in the photos are some new backpack gnomes ! Just the thing to wear on your backpacking trek through europe! I hope to make more of these for the etsy store also.

No..xen is not walking yet..but she is almost there!!

However she has just turned 10 months old and things are about to change as i am starting a short job back at the animation studio in a week! I am glad to say i am working on the remake of My Little Pony! It is very very very cute..believe me!

So of course i will be taking a short break on the toys this month which i am sure is going to be slow as march is usually anyway. Also plans are slow going but we are hoping to get a house built in a year so i am excited about that as well.

Mine is on the left but the fake is on the right with the chain attached.

I was at a chinese mall and was surprised and sort of not surprised to find a fake of my eggtarts..
The company is called xiangxing and it is called MINI- Q..
i think the tag is fake as well as we looked and found no such company online..

Do you have any advice what i should do? I don't really think i can do much but i wanted to give you all a heads up anyway.

Love Cone Gnomes!

I am finally posting some pics of our new line of gnomes we are slowly releasing this year!

The theme is emotions and we have already released angry gnome and so with valentines around the corner we are releasing love gnome. ( my personal favorite!)

This is also the first of our cotton canvas gnomes which is a better material as well.

We are planning on releasing sad gnome and cheery gnome around fall 2010.

yep i thought i would never get past half a year but here i am and lots is changing! She can sit, eat and sip from a cup and crawl forward ( in a leapfrog sort of way ) Now all i want is her to start talking !! haha

So i just want to let you all know that we have some great BIG cone gnomes we made to participate in this year's Plush You ! This is 4th year doing plush you in a row!

The Show opens on Friday Oct.9 at Shmancy in Seattle so check it out!

They are really soft and fun and i would have loved to go down this year in person but my new baby just HATES the car so maybe next year is more likely...:P

Here is a taste of toys that are in the works !

These are based on my line of felt bunnies and bears and the horses are based on the wooden dala toys that are popular in Europe.

Also i am happy to say that our toy line is now in 27 retail stores!! WOOHOO!!

You can see a store near you on my List of stores page on my website.

I am also going to be in a craft fair this Xmas so i will be saving these toys for then, it is my chance to see what people think and i really love selling toys in person much more than online, so much more personable!
